Long time no blog. May and June were too busy around here... still waiting for the relaxing part of summer vacation to start.
When we last left Brianna, she had just submitted her novel to a 7th publisher. This one did not require an agent, or comps that were recent. They also requested 25 pages (usually it's 5-10) and promised to read them.
Unfortunately...
Thank you so much for thinking of XXXXXXXXXXX for YYYYYY. We have carefully read and considered your query and sample and decided that unfortunately YYYYYY isn’t the right fit for XXXXXX. The publishing industry is very subjective, so we hope that this doesn't come as too much of a disappointment. We are a small publishing house and we receive many excellent submissions, which means we have to be extremely selective about the projects we bring on board—especially in the first few years of our publishing calendar.
Apparently, according to the internet I'm supposed to be happy they even responded. And not disappointed they asked for all those pages and then didn't have one non-form thing to say about it...
Now what?
Well, my query was totally written specifically for this publisher, so that's now useless.
I don't really want to write another YA book (the current trends in the industry do not appeal to me at all, maybe I'm officially too old...)
I really don't feel like even thinking about writing, much less coming up with a plot...
My family would really like it if I stopped moping and got a job... the husband thinks I should work at the local garden store. You know the one where I'd basically have the winter off and work ALL summer... and would totally be the exact opposite of a schedule that would work in this house... Also, my extent of plant knowledge is "don't forget to water them."
I gave myself 24 hours to mope and be sad and then I'll stop. I still have three hours and seven minutes to go.
2023 has not been a nice year, that is all I have to say about it.

How about a horrible picture of fireworks over my neighbor's house on Tuesday. I also somehow have 10 bug bites in various places from sitting on the front curb to watch them that are driving me insane.
